Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

2017-2018 Schedule

RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, also known as the Catechumenate.  It is the modern version of the nearly 2,000 year-old process of bringing people into the Catholic Church.  The present-day Catechumenate was resurrected by the Church after Vatican II and is designed to teach the Catholic faith to those who are not baptized (catechumens) and to receive them into the Church via the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.

This process of catechesis and conversion is also used to bring those baptized in a non-Catholic Christian faith into full communion with the Catholic Church.  We also welcome those Catholics who have been baptized, but who have not received all of their Sacraments of Initiation - either First Eucharist and/or Confirmation.

RCIA is not a program.  It is a process that seeks to draw the participants, their sponsors, their families and the entire parish community into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.

Participants will be expected to attend Sunday Mass and participate in weekly catechesis sessions.

Are you interested in joining the Catholic Church or know someone who is?  Classes are available to assist you in your journey into the Catholic Church or to prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation.

How can you Help?

  1. Pray for those discerning coming into the Catholic faith and for those who will help them.
  2. Invite those who are interested in becoming baptized, those who would like to join the Catholic faith or those Catholic adults who have yet to receive all of their Sacraments of Initiation (First Eucharist or Confirmation) to become part of the RCIA process.
  3. Volunteer to help with the teaching sessions or to serve as a sponsor for someone who will go through the RCIA process.
  4. Join us for the weekly catechetical session in order to grow closer to God and His Church.
